Dupont Explosives Letter Openers Reverse | DUPONT EXPLOSIVES ADVERTISING LETTER OPENERS - DuPont Explosives advertising letter openers in nickeled steel with aluminum slab grips. The top two are by S.D. Childs Co. in Chicago. The aluminum grips feature images of a dynamite stick, powder can, and box that reads POWDER CARTRIDGES and one side that reads DUPONT EXPLOSIVES, the top opener is engraved with GIANT POWDER on each side and the second opener is engraved with HERCULES POWDER on each side, length 9 1/4 in., ca. 1915. The third from the top letter opener is earlier than the other two, ca. 1900, likely before the government forced breakup of DuPont in 1912. This opener is nickeled steel with aluminum slab grips and was made by Schwaab Stamp and Seal Company of Milwaukee, WI. One side of the grips features a dynamite stick, powder can and explosives box, both marked DuPont, along with the Schwaab Milwaukee marking in very small print. The other side has DUPONT in large letters. Both sides are engraved with DUPONT EXPLOSIVES; length 9 in. The bottom opener is also by S. D. Childs Co. in Chicago. The aluminum grips feature images of a dynamite stick, powder can, and box that reads POWDER CARTRIDGES and one side that reads DUPONT EXPLOSIVES, the bottom opener is engraved with FORCITE on each side, length 9 1/8 in., ca. 1915. | ![]() |
